Challahdays

Hi guys! I haven't written for a while, so I decided to get back to it. A few weeks ago, my life was changed. Something truly incredible happened to me. It wasn't a mere revelation, but a huge milestone. It was the beginning of the end, or the end of the beginning. I don't really know. Anyways, it was beautiful and breathtaking. It was

For the first time in my life, I had Pavilions Challah.

Now let me explain. I am not Jewish. My mom came from an Episcopalian Christian Church. My dad came from a Lutheran Christian Church. We don't celebrate Rosh Hashanah, Hanukah, or Yom Kippur. When I was little, our class would have an integrated Hanukkah and Christmas celebration. Dreidles and Latkes, cookies and advent calendars. My friends had seven nights of presents, I had one (which seemed kind of unfair to me). Even though I was immersed in both cultures, I knew which religion was mine. I knew that I was a Christmas tree, not a Menorah.

Fast forward 7 years.

Bar and Bat Mitzvahs. The hugest, most coveted invitations a seventh grader could receive. A blowout party, music, and crazy food. The lights, the laughter, the action. It was incredible. On one particular day, after the Bat Mitzvah season had ended, my friends were going to the Jewish Club. Well, in true fashion, they went on the wrong day. The only problem was, well...one friend had two huge loaves of uneaten Challah.

They were huge, golden brown, and soft, fibers slowly unraveling as you peeled the soft layers apart. It was heaven. We powered through those Challah like it was our job. Piece after piece filled our stomachs higher and higher until we were all huge pieces of Challah. If the saying, you are what you eat is true, then we would have all been done. After my awakening, I realized something. You can convert to religions or observe certain ones, but the holidays all symbolize something important. The food, gifts, or traditions, are simply fixtures of the holiday. That is why I propose a new holiday. A food holiday.

Food is something intertwined into society. It can mend, change emotion (you know when that Taco Bell hits just right), and can start lasting friendships. You need it to survive. A food holiday would be a holiday where you eat every religion's food and learn more about that culture. It could be a special dedication to foods we would love, but would never have the chance to try otherwise. We could eat and learn and live. We could hold everyone's opinions over something that is a secret in our universe, by something universally known in our universe. Food.

Thanks!
